Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! I can't believe it is Christmas time already. We hope this post finds you all doing well.
2011 has been an interesting year for our family. It has been a year of big changes too! We started off this year with a move from Surprise (our home of five years) to Tucson. Moving so far from family and "home" as not been easy for any of us. We want each of you to know just how much you mean to us and that we miss you all.
So why the move to Tucson? After years of trying, Joe was finally able to get back into the education field and started working as an Assistant Principal for a charter school in Tucson on December 1, 2010. He loves that he was able to get back into education but he still misses being in the classroom with students. He doesn't seem to mind much when he must jump in to cover a class for a missing teacher unless it is Math (his problem subject). While he has too many responsibilities to list them all (and I know I would miss some), it is safe to say that he keeps very busy every day. I will tell you that his main responsibility has been discipline. In addition to his job, Joe served as Cub master for our church's cub scouts for a few months and is currently teaching Gospel Doctrine. While doing all of this he continues to work on his second master's degree in History. He hopes to be able to teach/oversee a college course or two in the near future. One way or another he will do some teaching.
Rebecca (14) started high school this year and got involved with the school's cross country team. She loves to run and complains because she has no one to run with so I thought this would be perfect for her. She did well and improved against her own personal time each week. Her best time was just over 27 minutes. As for high school its self she has been a little overwhelmed with all of it. She is still trying to figure out how to learn everything, get her homework done, and still have a social life. She has only attended a couple of church dances since turning 14 but seems to really enjoy them.
Savannah (will be 13 on the 14th) is in seventh grade this year. She was inducted into the NJHS at the end of last school year. She does really well with all of her classes and enjoys school. She played on one of the school's volleyball teams earlier this year. She is still involved in the school's choir and hopes to join their drama program (with many of her friends) this next semester. She is still quite the social butterfly. I think she has taken this move better than the rest of us.
Joseph (9) is in fourth grade this year. For the first time ever we allowed his to join a soccer league. He really loves to play the game and I was surprised to learn just how good he is at it. After taking the AIMS test last year, we learned that he is a very smart boy. He is doing well in school but doesn't appreciate the concept of homework. This year he was tested for their gifted program but missed it by a few questions. However, he has been able to participate in some extra reading program and is taking an advanced math class (he is doing 5th grade work). I am proud to say that he has greatly improved in his behavior and accountability for his work this year. Joe can be found either reading a book or playing the computer.
Kiley is 4 and every bit the I want to go to school now kid. She dislikes it very much that EVERYONE but her gets to go to school. She can't identify the letters of the alphabet but she has learned how to write her own name and many other letters. I try to work with her but she doesn't want me to do it with her. There are days I wish I could afford to send her to preschool. While she likes to watch tv she will not watch any of the educational programs or videos I have come across. She has loved being in Primary at church this year and can't wait to get a new teaching in a couple of weeks.
Sarah is 2 now. She is just like any other two year old- happy one minute and very moody the next. She also loves to watch tv, but unlike Kiley she will watch anything. I bought the "Your Baby Can Read" 4 disk set and she loves to watch those. I do not play them as often as I should or as instructed so by the program (for my own sanity) but she can read all 16 words in the first book. There are crazy big words like monkey, elephant, tiger, hippopotamus and gorilla. She loves it though. I think she is too cute for her own good most of the time and mine too.
As for me, I am still lucky enough to be an at home mom. Outside of that job I don't do anything too exciting anymore. Just after moving here I was called to serve in the Young Women as one of four beehive advisers (the current count for active girls is 15). I was just released from that calling on Sunday and have not been given a new calling. Since I have so much free time and nothing to do with it I decided to fill a need and was selected to be the PTSA Secretary for the Middle School where Savannah attends. I have not spent too much time in this position yet and it has not required much time but I have been able to meet some wonder ladies and have a few laughs with them.
Joe and I did take some long needed alone time this summer and went to visit my parents in Nauvoo while they are there serving a mission. It was wonderful! Everything was so beautiful and the history of it all is amazing! (See some picture here on my blog.) We hope to be able to make a family trip back there before my parents are finished in July but if not at least I can say I got to go.

Halloween 2010
Before I post pictures here for you all to see I just have to let you all know that I HATE trying to put pictures on here. I really don't like it. It is not easy at all. I want them on here and to look nice without taking up a lot of space but I just can't do it. I don't know how you all do it and make it look so nice. Someone please help me learn the tricks of the Blogspot trade.

2010 is off and rolling!
I know it is late, but let me start by saying we had a good holiday season. We were able to spend time with both the McKnights and Lofgreens for Christmas and New Years. Each family has their own holiday traditions and I feel luck that we are able to participate in the traditions for both sides.
The McKnights have a family dinner and talents show. The kids usually sing a Christmas song while I play the piano. Sometimes dad sings with the kids but not this year. There is always a special visitor to close out the night. Then they get together on Christmas Eve to read and act out Luke 2 and exchange gifts. This year we gave a sort of family history book with pictures we took throughout the year. I think they turned out nice.
My mother still enjoys caroling and does so every year. The sad thing is that there are people who look forward to us coming each year. I think my kids enjoy this also. Now that my brother and his family are back in town we are working on creating some new traditions. Those of us here is town got together on Christmas Eve to look at lights and have smores afterwards. My kids really enjoy getting to know my brother's kids better. They all love begin together so they piled in to the back of the truck and sang Christmas songs while looking at the lights. Since there were no out of town visitors for Christmas (most were here for Thanksgiving) my Mom and Dad came out to our house on Christmas morning to give the kids their gifts and spend some time with us.
We were lucky enough to be able to spend some time Christmas morning with four missionaries. For the last two years we have invited them to join us for breakfast and games afterwards. We have also giving them each a stocking with their favorite candy and then some. I would like to think that the missionaries enjoyed themselves as much as we enjoyed having them.
We were also lucky enough to be able to spend time with members of both families on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. We started off at my parents and then stopped by Scott and Teddie's house on New Year's Eve. As we walked up to the door most of the family was walking out of the door to different activities. We were able to visit with Scott and Teddie and Angie for a little while and then we returned to my parents' house where we rang in the New Year with my Mom and Erin. My parents were kind enough to let us spend the night so that we did not have to make the 45-60 min drive home. It was nice and Joe and I even got to sleep in. Thank you kids! We had breakfast around 10:30 with my Mom when she got home from playing tennis. Then that night we went to Scott and Teddie's house to watch the Gators' game with al of his family.
So again we had a great holiday season and enjoyed being able to spend a good amount of time with our extended families. Since then things have calmed down quite a bit and for the most part things have been good. I started out the year with a head cold and it is still being passed around. Right now Rebecca and Kiley (I think she started it all) are suffering the most. I am afraid that even little Sarah has gotten some of it now.
Dad is back to teaching early morning seminary, working, and trying to workout. ("This is the year," says Joe.) The three oldest kids are back in school and into the third quarter. They are all doing well. Kiley, Sarah and I are back to hangin' out during the day doing whatever we want to. There is a member family that recently moved to our street and we are becoming quick friends with them. (He is in the Air Force and is currently out at the Base. They have two little girls and Kiley loves to play with them and I enjoy visiting with their mom. Chances are we know his parents from when we were living in Glendale.)
I feel very blest that things have started off so well and I hope we can continue this trend. We are so luck to have so many family members close by and we love them all. We miss those that are not here but enjoy seeing them when the chances arise.

Blog VS Facebook
Between reading what everyone else is doing on Facebook (that I am not) and trying to decide what to write here I think my blog is getting the short end of the stick. For me and my mind, it is so much easier to write a short little post on Facebook then it is to come up with a topic worth writing about, logging in, and then writing it. (Plus I can't be on the computer long before Kiley wants to take over and look at pictures.)
In this post I will share our holiday (July 4th) recap. It started off with a three hour ER visit at 1:30AM. Big Joe had one of his out of control migraines and needed some help. (This was number two for the year.) After getting what he needed from the ER we were about to come home and get about 2 hours of sleep before we had to get up and get ready for breakfast. With Joe working nights we are not able to have the Missionaries over for dinner so we have been having them come over once a month for breakfast since late last year. We ended up have SIX Missionaries over for breakfast at 7AM. We served them waffles, eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and juice. It was a good breakfast. After breakfast we played a couple of rounds of the game It Came to Pass. The Missionaries left just before 9AM to go play soccer. We just kicked back and hung out for the day. Dad slept most of the day. Then at 4PM I started to prepare dinner for us, my parents, and two Missionaries. We did an indoor BBQ. The Missionaries had to be home by 6PM but my parents stayed to watch fireworks with us. We just drove up the street and parked at the High School and watched the City of Surprise's fireworks. It was nice to be close but not have to deal with a huge mass of people. After the fireworks it was home and off to bed. Overall it was a good day.

Spring Break 2009!
We started Spring Break early by taking a trip to the Pioneer Village on Saturday of last week. After a few hours there and watching one and a half Civil War Reenactment battles we left and headed to Mom and Dad's for a BBQ with everyone while Karena and Steve were in town.
The rest of the week is left in Savannah's hands.
On Tuesday, Joe went to Aunt Teddie's house and Rebecca and I went to Jarica's house (our cousin) and played till dad got out of work. We brought Jarica home and she spent the night at our house and we stayed up later.
Wednesday morning Mom took Jarica home on the way to her Dr's appointment and dropped us off at Grandma Lofgreen's. That afternoon she went to Uncle Scott and Aunt Heather's house and a swapped Kaylee for Joe. When we got home we played a game of life with the way her on the computer. And then after that Kaylee told us a scary story and she had to stop in the middle of the story and tell me a funny story because I got scared because she was telling a story about vampires and vampire hunters and so she kept saying that people died but I got scared and then she told me a funny story about a bunny and then I said she could go back to her story. And then Rebecca got crazy because in the story the vampire hunters used Stakes to kill the vampires and every time she said that Rebecca laughed. We stayed up till around 11:30 (it was much later then that according to mom and dad). We tried to sleep in but mom let Kiley in to wake us up at 9:30. So we woke us up then we had breakfast then we played a little bit longer and then we took her home and swapped kids back.
Back to mom- Today is Friday and it has been a small cleaning day (mostly laundry) with some shopping mixed in there. We are having the Missionaries over for breakfast tomorrow morning. We are also thinking about going over to the Air Force Base for Luke Days.

New Year's Revisted
Ok, here is the next recap. With kids being out of school for two weeks Aunt Teddie and Aunt Kim have made great use of the time and have taken three of my kids off my hands for a couple of days each week. They both live on Joe's way to work so his has taken them and dropped them off one day and picked them up after work the following day. My kids have loved this. It is sad that while we live so close to their cousins they don't seem to get to gather more often. With this week being New Year's Joe dropped them off on Tuesday and picked them up on New Year's Eve (we had one more house of Christmas lights to look at. Acutally to walk through. It is amazing inside. I think that will become a new tradition. We always look at the lights outside but we decided to look inside this year.) After our trip we joined the McKnight side for some food and games until everyone left at around 10 pm. We came home and played our Wii until midnight. Once we rang in the New Year and finshed a few more games on the Wii (because everyone was awake) it was off to bed.
New Year's Day was slow going until we headed to my parent's house. Here we ate lots of food and played whatever we all played. Everyone did their own thing with their own people. I think we all had a good time (expect for Big Joe who was fighting a headache). We arrived at 3pm and stayed until 9pm.
I think that will do it for my New Year's recap. So with all holidays out of the we were are good and school starts on Monday. Yeah!

New Year's Day was slow going until we headed to my parent's house. Here we ate lots of food and played whatever we all played. Everyone did their own thing with their own people. I think we all had a good time (expect for Big Joe who was fighting a headache). We arrived at 3pm and stayed until 9pm.

Christmas Revisited
Now that the holidays are behinds us it is time for a holiday recap. Because it could get long I will do individual posts so you have a better chance of making it through one before you have to do something else or get to bored.
We had a very nice and somewhat quiet Christmas. Joe had to work on Christmas Eve (CE) but after work we went to his families traditional CE party. Here we exchange gifts with each family and the kids put on a live nativity. This year there was a scripted program with some songs included to help set the tone for the nativity. The kids had fun playing a bells for a couple of songs. After the party we carry out or own CE tradition of driving around the neighborhood I grow up in (Moon Valley). This year we piled my brother's kids into the back of the truck with our kids. We love to look at all the lights and on CE many of the streets are lined with luminaries. It is a sight to see. We love it!
Christmas morning was the typical wake up and open presents. The kids made out like bandits this year. I gave in and Joe and I bought them a Wii and some additional games. At about 9 am the missionaries in our ward joined us for a simple breakfast (Hot Cocoa and Cinnamon Rolls). After breakfast we taught them how to play "It Came to Pass" and we are proud to say that one missionary is addicted to it. They needed a place to call home so after a few rounds of the game they used our cell phones to call home. After the calls they wanted to play the game some more so we play with them until about 3pm. They had plans with another set of missionaries for dinner. Shortly after they left Joe went and picked up his mom, two brothers, and one sister. Then came out to our home for dinner and some friendly games of bowling on the Wii (even Grandma McKnight played!). We did not get to see any of my family for Christmas because the rest of those that live close by went up to Utah.
The day after Christmas Joe had to go to work so there wasn't much time for playing. However, one of Joe's nephews was getting married on Saturday in Las Vegas so we decided to take a short trip up there for his wedding. He was Lucky enough to get off of work early on Friday so as soon as he got home and we were really to go off we went. We arrived at about dinner time. Thank goodness for Walmarts and McDonalds because we came a little unprepared for our trip so we were able to get what we needed and get dinner at the same time. We camped out in a condo complex that Joe's oldest brother worked on. (I don't know what he does but it was free.) It was a very nice place just down for the Strip. We were there for the Wedding and Reception on Saturday and drove home on Sunday because Joe had to be back to work on Monday morning.
Look for New Year's and our first ER trip of the year later today. Kiley is up from her nap and wants lunch.

Family Holiday Letter
Dear Family and Friends,
Since I seem to be struggling with getting things done and Savannah was willing to help, I put her in charge of writing a letter to include in our Christmas cards. The following is her letter as she typed it. I did not change/fix anything.
This year has gone by very fast it seems like every year just goes the same boring way and everyone is growing so fast. It seems like one day someone’s one age and the next day there another age then happens another and then another happens. What I’m trying to say is the year has gone so fast. I feel like I haven’t done anything with anyone very special this year except spending Christmas with you all my friends and family.
It feels so good to celebrate Christmas with you all. What is the true meaning of Christmas? It is spending time with the ones that you love so very dearly and celebrating the wonderful birth of our savior Jesus Christ our big brother and our example. I know that everyone will have a good Christmas and love one another. And be careful with the words they say and the actions they do and the way they care for one another in the home.
The recap on what the family wants for Christmas: first up is Kiley can’t tell you what she wants yet. Next up: Savannah I want a MAGIC BULLET. Next up: Joe wants a Nintendo DS. Next up is: Rebecca she wants a littlest pet shop VIP to go online with. Next up is: Dad He wants a new Ipod. Next up is: Mom she wants a new blender and food saver and all the other stuff that goes with food storage. So there’s what the family wants for Christmas.
The real recap on what’s up with the McKnight’s: Savannah’s birthdays next Sunday and she is really excited because she’s having a birthday party on Friday. Kiley is starting to walk and say words and my mom is trying to teach Kiley to use the bathroom toilet when she says Poo-Poo. (I have done this only once!) Joe he thinks he is 6 1/2 but his birthday is not till next February 24, 2009. Rebecca has lots of school work and she tries. Mom she is still working cleaning and shopping. Dad is at work most of the day and he only gets about 5minutes to say hello and then he has to say goodnight only after 6 minutes of being home. It’s good and all for one and one for all for the family and friends.

It is spending time with the ones that you love so very dearly and celebrating the wonderful birth of our savior Jesus Christ our big brother and our example. I know that everyone will have a good Christmas and love one another. And be careful with the words they say and the actions they do and the way they care for one another in the home.
The recap on what the family wants for Christmas: first up is Kiley can’t tell you what she wants yet. Next up: Savannah I want a MAGIC BULLET. Next up: Joe wants a Nintendo DS. Next up is: Rebecca she wants a littlest pet shop VIP to go online with. Next up is: Dad He wants a new Ipod. Next up is: Mom she wants a new blender and food saver and all the other stuff that goes with food storage. So there’s what the family wants for Christmas.
The real recap on what’s up with the McKnight’s: Savannah’s birthdays next Sunday and she is really excited because she’s having a birthday party on Friday. Kiley is starting to walk and say words and my mom is trying to teach Kiley to use the bathroom toilet when she says Poo-Poo. (I have done this only once!) Joe he thinks he is 6 1/2 but his birthday is not till next February 24, 2009. Rebecca has lots of school work and she tries. Mom she is still working cleaning and shopping. Dad is at work most of the day and he only gets about 5minutes to say hello and then he has to say goodnight only after 6 minutes of being home. It’s good and all for one and one for all for the family and friends.

Halloween
Where had a pretty good Halloween this year. The kids got TONS of candy. Thursday Night was our Ward's Trunk-or-Treating. They had a little costume parade and played the Charlie Brown Halloween movie using Joe's LCD Projector. Then last night I took them to Kim's for the McKnight's Annual Halloween dinner. They make up crazy Halloween names for the dinner food and the kids order food without knowing what they are getting. It doesn't take them long to figure out what they really want and what the new name of it is. It think all of the kids really like this. It went really fast last night because there were more teenagers and adults then there are little kids. Then we join Teddie in going around the block for more candy. We drove by Grandma McKnight's house and then went to Teddie's neighborhood for a trip around her block. It was more than enough candy and Kiley was clearly done. We hope you all had a great holiday and watch out because the Turkey is on the way.

Our Happy 4th!
We had a great holiday week! We were able to spend time with both families. We saw most of Joe's family on Tuesday (see previous posts) and some again on Friday morning at the movies. We watched Kung Fu Panda and the kids thought it was good. After the movies we stopped by Arby's for lunch and then headed over to my parent's house. After hanging out for a little while we were joined by Erin and her family and Scott and his kids. We were all able to visit and then most of us went swimming. After swimming we returned for dinner.
We saw two firework shows on our way home. The first show was at the Peoria Sports Complex. We watched it from one of the gas stations on Bell. It was good but the second one was way better. The second show was out here is Surprise at the ballpark. As we were driving past the show we got to see exactly where the fireworks were being launched from. It was so cool! We then pulled over on a side street to watch the rest. We could hear every bang and boom and feel the ground rumble.
I would say it was a great day!

Holidays Recap
I will attempt to recap our Christmas and New Year's for your reading enjoyment.
Christmas- Joe's family has two must do traditions for Christmas. The first is a family talent show followed by a visit from the man in the red suit. Our girls love to sing so Dad and the kids sang Angels We Have Heard on High while I accompanied them on the piano. The other tradition is a re-enactment of the nativity while someone reads from Luke 2. This is always done on Christmas Eve. This year Rebecca was an Angel, Savannah was one of two Marys, Little Joe was the only Joseph, and Joe was the narrator.
As for Christmas with the Lofgreen Family it was very quiet. We were recruited to go Christmas Caroling with Mom and Dad again this year. I think my mother is the only person who still believes in Caroling. I am not sure what my family thinks about it but we have done it for a number of years. Without any silbings and their families visiting for Christmas things were done differently this year. Instead of us bring Christmas to Mom and Dad's they brought Christmas to us. They (along with Karena) got up Christmas morning and loaded their gifts into the car and drove around to visit each child that lives here (AZ). So we exchanged gifts with them at our house and then met up with everyone for dinner at Mom's.

Mom- New warming throw (a heated blanket)
Rebecca- MP3 Player
Savannah- Mom's old HP Digital Camera (she takes it everywhere with her)
Little Joe- 3 Transformers
Kiley- a Gym to lay under
New Year's- We spent New Year's Eve with Mom and Dad at their house. Mom had invited everyone here over for dinner and games but we ended up being the only ones that made it. They also invited over a new convert to the church and her two girls. The adults and Rebecca played games while the other kids just played whatever. I really enjoyed playing the games that we did and we even got Dad to play with us! Time went by fast because we were all having such a good time. I decided that I did not want to have to drive home (45 mins) at 1am so we stayed the night. It was nice not to have to drive home but I have to say I did not sleep well. I don't like that bed in Grandma's old room. (I am glad I don't have to sleep on it unless I want to. :P)
Well I think that does it for our holiday excitement! Hope it wasn't too much of a bore.
